We have been moved, at Taize, to hear about the Passover of His Eminence Metropolitan Philaret, Emeritus Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus. We present to you, and through you to the entire Orthodox Church in Belarus, our heartfelt condolences.

I had the opportunity to meet Metropolitan Philaret in Minsk some years ago and 1 do not forget the way he spoke about the founder of our Taize Community, Brother Roger. Thanks to the confidence he had placed in us. Orthodox groups from Belarus have been able to come to Taize over the years and these links of spiritual friendship continue to bind our community to the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan Philaret was able to guide the Church, through the trials, with the heart of a pastor who loved the people entrusted to him. May God now grant him rest in the never-ending light, with all those who contemplate his Face.
